Strategic Capital Planning

The incredible growth in Alberta’s economy and population has created a need for more and better roads, schools, post-secondary facilities, hospitals and other infrastructure. In response to this growth, Treasury Board has developed a long-term (20 year) strategic capital plan. This plan addresses needs related to growth; ensures the maintenance of existing infrastructure; and explores options to fund capital projects and manage escalating infrastructure costs. Treasury Board also develops three-year capital plans as part of the government's annual budget process.
