Oil Sands Reports
The Oil Sands Sustainable Development Secretariat was mandated with coordinating the implementation of the three important reports listed below. The recommendations contained within these reports formed the basis of Responsible Actions: A Plan for Alberta’s Oil Sands.
The reports
- Investing in our Future: Responding to the Rapid Growth of Oil Sands Development (the Radke Report) - addressed the short-term impacts of development
- Oil Sands Consultations: Multi-stakeholder Committee Final Report (July 2007 - PDF, 2.5 MB)
- Oil Sands Consultations: Aboriginal Consultation Final Report (July 2007 - PDF, 9 MB)
The above two reports developed a vision and principles with respect to community, economic development and resource and environmental management.
These reports resulted in numerous recommendations: on the environment, economy, infrastructure, social needs and Aboriginal concerns.
The government has announced several initiatives and committed funding to address many of the recommendations. Ministries are working on an ongoing basis to tackle issues raised by the reports and will respond further through the release and implementation of the long-term strategic plan for oil sands.
